Old Fashioned Southern Almond Tea Cakes

INGREDIENTS
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter, margarine, or butter-flavored Crisco shortening (or 1/2 + 1/2)
3 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk (or 1/2 c. milk + 1 tsp. vinegar)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. almond extract
5 c. flour
Preheat oven to 350ºF
DIRECTIONS
1. Cream sugar and Crisco
2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
3. Add buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda, salt and flavorings.
4. Slowly mix in approximately 5 cups of flour.
5. Lightly flour surface.
6. Using approximately 2 cups of dough, pat out to 1/2" - 1" thickness.
7. Cut out shapes.
9. Bake at 350 degrees for ~8 minutes.
FROSTING
1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tbs. milk
Combine softened butter with remaining ingredients.
Beat until smooth and creamy.
Frost cookies after they have cooled.
